Who Are You Voting For?

It is the time of year when we are inundated with political advertisement, mostly bashing the opposition.  So who do we vote for?  How do you choose someone to vote in your best interest?  Who can we put into a public office that is fair and objective and abides by our constitutional laws?  Who will vote for the best and highest good of the majority of the people?  These are questions I ask around election time but I rarely am satisfied with the answers.  It takes time to research the records of candidates, their affiliations, voting records, police records, or anything else that might show their integrity or true behavior.  So, who do you vote for?  Do you go into the polls and go eeny, meeny, miny, moe?  Do you vote for the person who puts up the most signs?  Do you vote for the best dressed or the most honest looking?  Do you vote for who your friends and family are voting for?  How do most people make their decisions on how to vote?

We are entrusting an elected official to vote on public matters that would be in our best interest.  But different people have different interests.  How can all differences be balanced?  In essence we surrender some of our personal power to the politicians to make decisions for us.  Ideally, we allow the politician who can specialize in knowing how government works and vote according to their constituents wishes.  But how often does that politician defer decisions making to some other special interest group without fully understanding what they are voting for.

I believe that most people shun responsibility.  How easy it is to have someone take care of things for you.  Guess what?  You give up your responsibility, you give up your power leaving you to complain about the state of affairs with no recourse.  It is time to grow up, leave our baby cribs and take full responsibility for ourselves.  It is not the responsibility of our government to make us safe and happy.  It is not the media's job to tell me how I should think on any given issue.

So, how do we make our lives better?  It is up to you to decide that.  First take full responsibility for anything that happens in your life.  Second use the brain and intuition you are given to make decisions that benefit yourself and your community.  Next get involved with an activity of community service.  Something that stirs  your soul.  Be part of the solution.  Everyone of us has a special talent that can benefit others.  When we help others we help ourselves.  Let us not waste our time hoping a governing body can take care of our needs.  Ultimately you will be disappointed.  So vote, not just on election day but everyday.  Vote with your own power.  Understand how those that represent us are serving our needs.
